  Meitei (Manipur)

The unique bridal costume of the Meitei community in Manipur is an offshoot from the dance costume of the Raasleela, the famous dance of the state. The bride's costume comprises of a velvet blouse and a cylindrical skirt called the potloi. The red potloi is made from thick fabric that is ornamented with sequins and mirrors. The traditional akoibi motif embellishes the border of the skirt.

Namthang Khulak, a stole of fine silk edged with a golden braid, is used to drape the bride's head. No
bridal wear is complete without jewelry. A diamond headgear with a butterfly motif fixes the stole to the bride's head. She Sports a jappa on her forehead and gold bangles adorn her arms. Marei Pareng and Nangoi Pareng are the two necklaces that are essential for the bride to wear. The groom wears a dhoti and kurta called pheijom and pungyat respectively. He drapes a white chadar across his shoulders and covers his head with a white turban, kokyet, which is edged with golden braiding.
